In the past, Irish employees had no legal right to be paid while they were on sick leave from work. On 1 January 2023, the Irish government implemented a Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) process.

It consists of an entitlement to three days of paid sick leave in 2023, (subject to meeting qualifying criteria) and

will be rolled out as part of a four-year plan, with an entitlement of 10 days paid sick leave by year four.
